Identifying the vehicle

The registration is checked against the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service, which returns make, year of manufacture, colour, fuel type, engine capacity, CO2, tax status and MOT status.

DVLA does not hold a model field. Where the DVSA MOT history service is available it supplies the model and every recorded odometer reading, which we use to prefill mileage. Where neither supplies a model, we ask you to confirm it rather than guess.

We do not put your registration in a web address at any point. It is held server-side against an anonymous session reference, so it does not appear in server logs or browser history.

What we treat as value-relevant

FactorWhy it is asked
Mileage against ageThe largest single lever on most cars, and the point at which some retail buyers apply internal caps
Service historyFrequently the difference between a retail-ready car and a trade-only one
Cosmetic conditionThe most commonly cited ground for a reduction at collection, so it is priced up front instead
SpecificationOptions rarely return their cost but materially change the size of the buyer pool
Finance positionDetermines whether a sale is possible and what reaches you afterwards
Battery health and EV optionsOn an electric car these move the price more than the odometer does
Payment preferenceNot every buyer offers every method, so it filters who is approached

How buyers are matched

Buyers register standing preferences. A car is shown to those whose criteria it meets, rather than broadcast to everyone — which is why the offers that come back are from buyers who actually want it.

Where a vehicle is unusual, damaged, high mileage or electric, we widen the search beyond the immediate region, because those are precisely the cars where specialists and generalists disagree most.

How offers are ranked

By net value to you and by the terms attached, not by the headline figure alone. An offer with an admin fee, paid three days after collection, is not better than a slightly lower one paid before the transporter leaves.

Ranking is not for sale. Buyers pay us on completed sales; they cannot pay for position. If that ever changed it would be labelled on the page.

The limits of this method

A valuation is an estimate from the information you give us. If the description is wrong, the offer will be too.

Our offer certainty scoring needs completed transactions to be meaningful, and we do not have enough yet. Until then we show no score rather than a fabricated one.

We cannot compel a buyer to pay. What we can do is record what they did and let it cost them access — which is the only sanction that has ever worked in this market.

Questions

Common questions

Do you use trade guide values?

Buyer offers are the number that matters, because they are commitments rather than opinions. Guide data informs the initial estimate.

Why do you ask so many questions?

Because every unanswered question is a reason for a buyer to reduce the price later. Detail up front is what makes an offer hold.

Can a buyer pay for a better position?

No. Ranking is by net value and terms, and it is not purchasable.
