Electric cars
Most buyers price an electric car the way they price a petrol one: age, mileage, done. No question about battery health, no credit for options you paid thousands for, no understanding of what the software adds.

On a petrol car, age and mileage capture most of the value. On an electric car they capture considerably less, because two identical-looking cars can differ by thousands depending on things that never appear on a registration lookup.
The used EV market is growing quickly and is still finding its level. Buyers hold sharply different views about residual values, battery risk and how quickly the next generation will arrive.
That disagreement is widest on cars with a narrower audience — a Mustang Mach-E, an early Jaguar I-Pace or a Polestar 2 can attract offers thousands apart depending on which buyer sees it.
That disagreement is worse for a seller who asks one buyer, and better for a seller who asks several. The spread on used EVs is consistently wider than on equivalent petrol cars.
Every EV valuation asks for battery health, software options, charging equipment, wheel specification and warranty status, and all of it goes to buyers who understand what those things are worth.
Selling locally? EV demand in the West Midlands is still more specialist than mainstream, which widens the spread between buyers — see Wolverhampton, the Black Country or the wider region.
It takes a couple of extra minutes and it is the difference between being priced as a generic three-year-old hatchback and being priced as the car you own.
Questions
Most EVs report usable capacity in the service or battery menu. Some manufacturers issue a battery health certificate. Where you cannot find it, tell us the model year and typical range and we will work from that.
No. It changes the price, and it changes which buyers are interested. Many manufacturers also cover significant capacity loss under warranty, which can be worth checking first.
Values have been volatile and vary considerably by model. That is precisely why a single valuation is risky — buyers disagree, and their disagreement is where your money sits.
Yes, and it matters. Replacement cables are expensive and their absence comes off the offer.
