A generic valuation takes model, year and mileage and returns the middle of a range. On a petrol hatchback that is roughly right. On a Tesla it can be thousands out in either direction.
The reason is that Tesla value is carried by things that never appear in vehicle records: battery condition, which software options are present and transferable, wheel specification, and whether the car carries free Supercharging.
There is a second reason. Tesla adjusts new prices more often and more sharply than traditional manufacturers, and used values follow within weeks. A valuation from two months ago may simply be out of date.
